What are London recruitment agencies looking for in a CV?
At Spotlight Recruitment we get hundreds of CVs sent into us each day as a marketing recruitment agency. However, many candidates do not make the most of their achievements, work ethic and/or personality in their CV, which is such a shame as a CV is the first tool you must use to sell yourself. Therefore we have decided to put together some tips that will help you get spotted by marketing recruitment agencies in London and by potential employers.
A Marketing Recruitment Agency’s advice:
Is your name centred and bolded with curriculum vitae underneath it at the top of the page
Are your details obvious at the top of the page –a recruitment agency wants to be able to contact you easily and quickly
If there is a written profile, list it at the top of your CV so it is the first piece we read underneath your name and details – keep it short and keep it relevant, a profile is only meant to be a summary of your character and demonstrate your suitability for the role to the marketing recruitment agency
List interests and, unless you are a recent graduate with little employment history, education at the bottom of the CV; we care about work experience although academic achievements are still very important
Is the information on where you worked set out in an easily readable way?
We suggest in bold; date, company and title of role on the line below
Start with your most recent work and then work chronologically backwards – don’t jump around, this can make it confusing for a recruitment agency
If you have a long employment history list the most recent and relevant work and then summarise the small jobs, making sure not to leave time gaps on your CV
Bullet point your responsibilities within each company and any notable achievements; never assume the marketing recruitment agency will know what you have done within the job as each role is different and you may have had more responsibilities than your job title suggests to the reader
Use the right language within your CV, describing goals achieved and targets that were set – this is the kind of terminology employers and recruitment agencies in London look for
An obvious one here, but spelling and grammar are extremely important, mistakes suggest lack of care and with so many CVs sent to marketing recruitment agencies it often means the difference between a rejection and an interview
Consistency is key – if you have started with the job titles indented or a paragraph between the title and responsibilities etc. carry on doing this, it improves the overall look of the CV for recruitment agencies to read
Ideally a CV should be no more than two to three pages long
